On top of all of these attacks, an even larger threat to us indigenous people are the recent passing of the Anti-Terror Law this July 2020. Many people opposed the Anti-Terror Law, including us Lumad, because the law is so vague and broad that it can and will be used against dissenters, critics, environmental defenders, and us indigenous people.

I am influenced and have been trying to live by the social Gospel of Luke especially on Luke 4:18-19, “The Spirit of the LORD is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor.”

On UNHRC Resolution
ENJPP is particularly enraged at the disinformation methods used by the Government of the Philippines in the months leading up to the UNHRC 45th session, in particular with regard to the document “The Philippine Human Rights Situationer” that was distributed in Geneva in a bid to discredit human rights defenders and their groups who have worked tirelessly for years to inform the UNHRC members of the full extent of the human rights violations taking place in the Philippines.

On Resolution of European Parliament
The resolution also recommended that, given the serious human rights situation, the European Commission should immediately initiate the procedure that could lead to the temporary withdrawal of the preferential trade benefits that the Philippines currently enjoys in trade with the EU.
