There is no press freedom in the Philippines.
Today, May 5, 2020, the Duterte administration has decided to shut down ABS-CBN, the largest media franchise in the country. The Duterte administration prioritizes hunting and shutting down its critics instead of responding to healthcare issues during this pandemic.
MILLIONS of Filipinos have already lost their jobs because of the lockdown. Instead of giving a solution to this problem as Filipinos already struggle to feed their family, Duterte has added MORE to these numbers as 10,000 Filipinos will lose their jobs because of the shutdown. THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, THOUGH, HAS ALLOWED THE OPERATION OF ABS-CBN.
This tactic is fresh from the Marcosian playbook. Former dictator Ferdinand Marcos also shut down ABS-CBN during Martial Law, and Duterte, the copycat that he is, has also decided to do it.
What Duterte must not forget, however, is that Ferdinand Marcos was ousted and the Filipino people can and WILL OUST HIM.
WITH THE MILITARIST LOCKDOWN IN PLACE, POVERTY, HUNGER AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION PLAGUING THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION BUT TO WAGE A JUST STRUGGLE FOR REGIME AND SYSTEM CHANGE.
