We, the leadership of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI), warmly congratulate Bp. Broderick Pabillo in his appointment by Pope Francis today as the “Apostolic Administrator” of the Archdiocese of Manila in view of its vacancy as its erstwhile head has taken new position in the Vatican.
We pray and wish the best for Bp. Broderick Pabillo as he leads Manila Archdiocese until a new bishop is chosen to permanently replace Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
We in the IFI are glad on Bp. Broderick Padillo’s new appointment, as it recognizes his courageous kind of prophetic witness and social advocacy in these challenging times under Duterte’s governance, and gives reassurance that the voice and witness of the Roman Catholic Church here in the Philippines do not go silent but may persist to disturb public conscience and animate struggle for social change.
We praise the Lord God for this news! May the Lord God bless Bp. Broderick Pabillo, protect him in Lord God’s gracious keeping, and embolden him all the more to act out his faith and witness.
